Company History
The short story:
In response to a suggestion from a friend, John Heimann bought his first equipment for tool sharpening in 1988. After attending Foley-Belsaw sharpening school, he and his wife, Chris, opened Tooth & File Sharpening Shop on April 11, 1988. The first shop was only 80 square feet.
Today, after building the business around its customers' needs, the company name is J.C., Inc. Builder's Hardware and Supply. With a dedicated staff of ten, including John and Chris, the company generates over 2 million dollars in annual sales. J.C., Inc. is located in Moscow Mills, Missouri and operates out of a 14,000 square foot facility.
The rest of the story:
John picked up saw blades and tools from contractors on the job site and returned them sharpened the following week. Always wanting to Deliver More, he soon started selling new saw blades and chainsaw chains.
In 1992, the sharpening shop was outgrowing its building, so a new addition was added to John's garage and the whole building was remodeled containing a showroom, office, and shop area totaling 684 square feet. At his customers' request, John Delivered More and began selling outdoor power equipment and repairing chainsaws and string trimmers.
It wasn't long before his customers were asking him to Deliver even More. To meet their needs, John started repairing air compressors, generators, and electric power tools in 1993. Running the business was no longer a one man job, so John's wife, Chris, quit her job and went to work full time for J.C., Inc (then Tooth & File).
Once again the building grew too small, so in 1995, a 648 square foot extension was added on to the facility for equipment repair, almost doubling the space. An additional office employee and shop mechanic were added to work in the new space.
Also in 1995, Tooth & File Sharpening shop was reorganized and became J.C., Inc. Builder's Hardware & Supply. From that time on, the "J.C." stood for Jesus Christ along with John and Chris. The mission statement for J.C., Inc. became II Thessalonians 3:13 "Never tire of doing what is right."
By 1997, J.C, Inc. was carrying a full line of hand tools, power tools, construction equipment, outdoor power tools, and pneumatic nail guns. The additional product called for larger delivery vehicles, so J.C., Inc. purchased its first box style delivery truck and hired its first full time sales and delivery person.
In 1998, a new 1,360 square foot warehouse was built to house all the new products. An additional person was hired to work strictly on electrical power tools and pneumatic nail guns.
By 2000, J.C., Inc. was so busy Delivering More that they added an even larger box delivery truck to their fleet and another sales and delivery person. Our sales and delivery team has always enjoyed getting to know customers and their needs and creating life-long friendships. J.C., Inc. decided that our sales team would not work on commission and would be there to serve the customer and save them money.
J.C., Inc. moved into its newly constructed 14,000 square foot facility in November of 2003. Now, the new space provides ample room for an awesome 4,500 square foot showroom and a clean and neat 8,000 square foot warehouse.
The company's success is attributed to its commitment to honesty, integrity, and friendship with some of the top home builders in St. Charles county, St. Louis county, Kansas City in Missouri, and in Illinois. Delivering More ... It's what we do. Because in an ever competitive home building industry our customers are constantly looking for the best products at the best price. We Deliver More.
